How to get your first users with UGC creators [Shipaton 26]
|
Key takeaway: Diego Kaffie used a network of nano-creators to drop cost per install to $0.01 for mobile games.
• $1.50 average CPM on the Noise platform compares to $15.00-$25.00 on traditional Facebook channels.
• 0.1% to 1% conversion rates are typical for organic UGC, yielding 1 to 10 installs per 1,000 views.
• Reference videos in "playbooks" are more effective than text scripts for ensuring creators hit specific visual hooks.
• TikTok’s "Photo Mode" slideshows allow for deterministic content where the developer controls the exact images and text.
• Instruct creators to use the phrase "[App Name] App" to ensure users find your specific listing in App Store search results.
Why it matters: Organic reach on platforms like TikTok decouples growth from follower counts, making user acquisition viable for brand-new apps.
Worth it? Yes, it provides a specific framework for low-cost user acquisition through nano-influencers.

How to use affiliate marketing to grow your app
|
Key takeaway: Affiliate marketing for apps aligns incentives by paying 15-40% commissions only when a sale is confirmed.
• 68% of Google searches now result in "zero clicks," making social mentions more effective than traditional SEO for training AI recommendation models.
• 100% of the first payment can be offered as commission if your annual retention rate is at least 25%, as renewals provide future cash flow.
• 30-day free trials on custom affiliate paywalls featuring the influencer's face significantly increase conversion over standard 7-day trials.
• "Never give influencers a script," according to Michael Butler, as authentic voices perform better than rehearsed marketing copy.
• Power users are the most effective recruits; one developer signed 100 affiliates in 48 hours by simply messaging their active user base.
Why it matters: It bypasses the rising costs of search ads by leveraging the trust and reach of existing communities.
Worth it? Yes, this is a detailed guide on a high-leverage growth channel often ignored by small dev teams.

Drama on X
- Prayer Lock is off the App Store, and there is a plot twist @daaaaanc
It went, most likely, after Danna R. walked through the app’s onboarding in public. X has argued about it since — some call the removal unfair on an app doing $100k a month, some call it overdue.
The plot twist: Luke Carry agreed the dark patterns deserved calling out, then asked why Danna’s own app carries a remote config with an "app review mode" that swaps the pre-auth paywall.
Danna R. ✓@daaaaanc𝕏 This app does $100k/month and every screen of its onboarding breaks a different Apple rule. I went through the Prayer Lock onboarding and I get why one article called it a masterclass. It asked me to rate the app TWICE before I’d done anything. The paywall says FREE in giant letters with “no payment now”. The $39.99/yr you’re actually signing up for is the smallest text on the screen. I declined and got an exit offer: $0.76/week, the real charge is nowhere on that screen. And there’s a discount countdown sitting in my dynamic island and on my lock screen as I write this 😭 Every one of these converts, that's exactly the problem. The devs following the rules are the ones losing.
Lucas ✓@lukecarry_𝕏 totally agree, dark patterns should be called out 🙏 btw while we're on it @daaaaanc why does your app have a remote config with an "app review mode" that changes the pre-auth paywalls? https://t.co/6kTHpdm65A
