The Viral Screen Framework: Reaching $300k MRR via Social Validation
Key takeaway: Nicole reached $300,000 Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) by validating "viral screens" in Figma and social media before writing any code.
• Nicole manages two AI apps, Glam Up and Sprout, which generate a combined $300,000 MRR.
• She identifies viable niches by looking for existing apps earning between $50,000 and $100,000 MRR, suggesting these are healthy enough to "attack."
• Her "Niche Attack" strategy prioritizes market demand over personal interest; she admits she often does not understand the industry before researching it.
• To avoid wasting development time, she tests feature concepts in Figma first, using a network of 800 creators to post the concepts to see if they go viral.
• She advises avoiding "hyper-saturated" markets like Health and Fitness because it is nearly impossible to introduce truly novel ideas there.
• A "viral feature" typically performs 10x better than others and proves its worth within the first week of testing.
• Glam Up pivoted from text-based tutorials to a visual "Before and After" face scan after the original model failed to gain traction over four months.
• Her design process focuses on the "viral screen"—the specific output intended for social media—as the primary design task on day two of a new project.
Why it matters: This framework shifts the risk of app development from "build and hope" to "validate via social media engagement" before committing engineering resources.
Worth it: Yes, it provides a concrete, high-revenue tactic for validating product-market fit using low-fidelity design tools and creator networks.

The affiliate marketing playbook for apps
Key takeaway: Affiliate marketing offers a performance-based alternative to paid ads, with commission structures typically ranging from 15% to 40% or even 100% of the initial payment to prioritize long-term renewals and untracked spillover sales.
• Standard commissions for app affiliates range from 15% to 40%, though starting 5% higher than planned is recommended to attract initial creator interest.
• A 100% commission strategy on the first payment can be profitable because the developer retains roughly 20% to 30% of spillover revenue from users who see the content but buy without a link, plus 100% of all future annual renewals.
• Effective tracking requires a multi-layered approach using direct links and short codes to capture YouTube on TV viewers and others who cannot easily click a link.
• Apple Offer Codes are often avoided by sophisticated marketers due to limited quantities and a rigid user experience that bypasses custom in-app paywalls.
• Custom paywalls allow for affiliate-specific personalization, such as extending a standard 7-day trial to 30 days or featuring the creator’s face and a personalized greeting.
• Recruitment should begin with existing super fans and email subscribers; one developer recruited 100 affiliates in two days by targeting their own user base.
• Affiliate content creates a search halo, where frequent mentions on TikTok and YouTube train AI search models to recommend the app in generated answers.
Why it matters: For small app businesses struggling with rising customer acquisition costs, affiliate marketing provides a guaranteed return on spend while building an organic search presence that feeds AI training models.
Worth it: Yes, it provides specific commission benchmarks and a technical roadmap for moving beyond flat-fee influencer deals.

Android Chargeback Fees @HHaandr

Google charges developers roughly $20 for every in-app purchase chargeback on the Play Store. To mitigate these costs, Google’s `PendingRefundReviewNotification` API allows you to provide data to help dispute chargebacks with banks.

RevenueCat now supports this API. Hendrik Haandrikman suggests selecting "prefer no refund" on Android to help Google fight these claims, as these fees are passed directly to you.

If you're generating revenue on Android, go to Play Console > Download Reports > Financial > filter on chargebacks right now Google will charge you $20 when a customer charges back an in-app purchase on the Play Store (in addition to taking back the actual earnings) To help you dispute those chargebacks, Google introduced the PendingRefundReviewNotification API And to help you actually use that API, we now support it in Refund Handling It's important to understand that this is not actually about refunds (for now: Google has said they might add those later)…
